Getting a flat tire is inconvenient, but with some tips from Mercedes-Benz service professionals, you can change your tire and get back on the road quickly. And once you’ve swapped in the spare, come by our dealership so we can make a full repair. Here’s your tire-changing guide from the pros at Mercedes-Benz of Orland Park.

Symptoms of a Flat Tire

A flat tire is generally easy to diagnose. As you approach your luxury model for your morning commute, you might notice that one tire is deflated, which means you likely have a hole or puncture. Symptoms that might occur while you’re driving include the warning light illuminating, the vehicle pulling to one side, or a thumping sound that signals you’ll need to change your tire immediately.

Steps to Change a Flat Tire

If you need to change out a flat tire before coming to our Mercedes-Benz service center, follow these steps:

  • Pull your vehicle over to a safe spot away from traffic, then turn on your hazards and engage the parking brake. If you have wheel wedges, apply them to the wheels you are not attending to.
  • Gather your spare tire, jack, and tire iron.
  • Use the tire iron to loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire, then use the jack to lift up the vehicle about six inches.
  • Carefully remove the lug nuts and the damaged tire.
  • Place your spare tire on the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Gently lower the vehicle and use the tire iron to finish tightening the lug nuts.

Once you’re finished, put your tools and the bad tire back into your vehicle, carefully pull back onto the road, and make a service appointment as soon as possible.
